FC Barcelona is under a lot of pressure following their 1-0 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night.
The Catalans have now lost two of their last three games in all competitions, and their win over Real Sociedad last weekend was far from convincing.
The locker room’s confidence appears to be low at this point, and it is up to manager Xavi Hernandez and his staff to help his players turn things around.
Grabbing the bull’s horns
And, if a report from AS’s Javi Miguel is to be believed, Xavi is not wasting any time in his efforts to try to halt his Barcelona team’s recent slide.
According to reports, Barça’s head coach held a serious meeting with his staff and all players today, locking everyone inside the locker room for nearly an hour.
After Tuesday’s defeat, Xavi admitted that it was one of the Catalans’ worst performances during his tenure as manager, and as such, he had a serious conversation with everyone in search of solutions to reverse the situation and keep the team from becoming stagnant.
According to the report, it was a very positive meeting in which several players raised their voices and expressed their opinions, particularly captains Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ronald Araujo.
However, veterans such as Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan spoke up, as did some of the team’s younger members.
To halt the slide as soon as possible, Xavi appealed to the players’ pride and commitment, as well as their thoughts on how Barcelona can turn things around.
According to the report, the exchange was heated and ended with all parties reaching the same conclusion: they need to end this slump as soon as possible, that nothing is lost, but that they cannot replicate the team’s performance in the previous two games.
It was also agreed that the situation is reversible and that, against Alaves, Barça has a great opportunity to show their fans that the team has recovered its positive vibes.
