West Ham Wants To Sign The Premier League’s Third Quickest Right-Back In The January Transfer Window

In the January transfer window, West Ham United are looking to sign one of the Premier League’s fastest right-backs.

According to Football Transfers, West Ham manager David Moyes is looking to replace Vladimir Coufal in the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old is a decent right-back and could still sign a new 12-month extension, but Moyes definitely needs to bring in someone younger, quicker, and more athletic.

And it seems as though the Hammers manager has someone very specific in mind ahead of the January window.

West Ham are thought to be actively trying to sign Wolves right-back Nelson Semedo, according to Football Transfers.

And if the Hammers do sign the Portuguese defender this winter, it will almost certainly spell the end of Coufal being our first-choice right-back…

Now, I truly believe that the Wolves star would be a huge upgrade on Coufal. He’s certainly better going forward than the 31-year-old Czech Republic international, and he’s on another planet when it comes to his pace and incredible acceleration.

Squawka compiled a list of the Premier League’s fastest defenders last season, and Semedo, 30, featured very high in the standings.

While he was fifth on the list of the fastest defenders, he was actually the third fastest right-back, behind only Kyle Walker and Diogo Dalot.

Now, my one problem with signing Semedo is the fact that he’s 30. I would much prefer Moyes to move for someone like Aaron Wan-Bissaka. That said, the former Barcelona man certainly hasn’t been slowing down with age, and still possesses his blistering pace.

He would make us so much more of a threat down the right-hand side with his ability to overlap Jarrod Bowen.

Semedo will be out of contract at Molineux in the summer of 2025, so this January and next summer will be the final two opportunities Wolves have to sell him for a decent fee if he doesn’t sign a new deal of course.

And if West Ham manage to sign him in the January window, I think he’ll be a superb addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium.
