West Ham United team news v Luton Town as David Moyes shares Lucas Paqueta injury update

West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed that both Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nayef Aguerd will miss the clash with Luton Town.

The Hammers welcome Rob Edwards’ side to the London Stadium on Saturday (11 May) for the 61-year-old’s final home game in charge of the Irons after it was confirmed he would be leaving at the end of the season.

While Moyes has been boosted by the fitness of Lucas Paqueta who has trained all week despite picking up a knock against Chelsea, the Scotsman is still short of options in defence with two centre-backs sidelined.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (10 May) Moyes said: “Lucas Paquetá seems OK and has trained for most of the week, but unfortunately we don’t have Dinos [Mavropanos] or Nayef [Aguerd] back yet.”

Will Lucas Paqueta play for West Ham United and David Moyes v Luton Town?

While there has been plenty of talk about how the Hammers have handled this situation with the Moyes, everyone at the London Stadium will be united to give the Scotsman an excellent send-off in Saturday’s game.

Whether you’re in the camp that his dismissal has been unfair and he deserves more respect, or if you believe that change has been necessary for far too long now, everyone can agree he has achieved some excellent things in East London.

It will be a blow to be without both Mavropanos and Aguerd, especially after both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma struggled against Chelsea last time out, but the Scotsman will hope his side have enough to claim all three points.

At the end of the day, a lot of the players in that West Ham changing room are still playing for their future at the football club and simply have to impress their new manager, whether that be Julen Lopetegui or somebody else.
