West Ham United have an agreement in place with Manchester City for their 28-year-old midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
According to a report by The Athletic, West Ham United were keen on reinforcing their midfield in the ongoing transfer window and Kalvin Phillips was a priority target for them. The Hammers have managed to strike a deal with Manchester City for the 28-year-old’s services.
City were ready to part ways with Phillips in the summer. They were ready to sanction a loan move but the England international decided to stay at the club and fight for his place. But, nothing has changed in the past six months and he still remains surplus to requirement at City.
They signed him back in the summer of 2022 after his impressive run at his childhood club Leeds United. The defensive midfielder was expected to make his way into Pep Guardiola’s playing XI but that move hasn’t worked out.
After getting only 319 minutes across 10 matches, the 28-year-old decided it was time he moved on in search of regular first-team football with the Euros coming up. While there were numerous clubs interested in the England international, West Ham United have managed to strike a deal with City.
Juventus have been linked with the former Leeds midfielder of late but they haven’t made any moves. And, in the meantime, the Hammers have agreed terms with City for a loan move. The London club have had a few injury problems and David Moyes was keen on having more depth in the centre of the park.
While they did sign quite a few players after making a significant amount of funds by selling Declan Rice, the Hammers are still in need of another defensive midfielder. And, Phillips seemed to be a perfect fit as he has experience playing in the Premier League.
Personal terms were never gonna be a problem with the player keen on first-team football and the Hammers ready to cover his ages. And, with the clubs now on the same, the move will soon be made official as soon as the 28-year-old returns to England with the rest of the City squad from their training camp in Abu Dhabi.
