West Ham are stuck behind Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United, according to The Sun.
The paper reported via their website on 28 May that the Irons are in a five-way battle to bring in the £40million-rated winger from the Championship after the Whites failed to gain promotion via the play off final at the weekend, but the two American-owned clubs are leading.
But, as with Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, the Hammers are said to have “work to do” to convince the Dutchman, 22, to choose a move to the London Stadium over either Anfield or Stamford Bridge.
Summerville was named the second tier’s Player of the Season after a glittering campaign where he scored 19 league goals, before adding another one in the play offs, but he couldn’t influence the 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the same way as Daniel Farke’s side were consigned to a second season outside the top flight.
West Ham face uphill battle against Chelsea and Liverpool
Although Summerville has yet to prove himself regularly in the Premier League during his still-young career he fits the exact sort of profile that West Ham surely need to be targeting this summer.
Outside of headline attacking options Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, whose own status is now uncertain following an FA charge over alleged gambling rule breaches, there is little to turn to for incoming boss Julen Lopetegui.
