West Bromwich in £20m Race for Sunderland Star Amid Competition from Liverpool and Celtic.

West Bromwich Albion has reportedly joined the race for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with a potential £20 million transfer deal. Patterson, 23, has been a standout performer for Sunderland, earning plaudits for his shot-stopping abilities and calm presence in goal. He has made 119 appearances since his debut in 2020, establishing himself as one of the top goalkeepers outside the Premier League.

Liverpool is also interested in Patterson, viewing him as a replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, who may leave Anfield in search of more first-team opportunities. With Alisson Becker firmly entrenched as Liverpool’s first-choice keeper, Kelleher’s future is uncertain, and Patterson has been identified as a strong candidate to fill the backup role. Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, has reportedly endorsed Patterson as a long-term option, possibly even as a successor to Alisson.

Celtic, meanwhile, has also expressed interest in Patterson, seeing him as a top candidate to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks. The Scottish giants are believed to be willing to pay in the range of £15-20 million, but they face stiff competition from Premier League clubs. Celtic would offer Patterson the chance to play European football, a potential lure for the young goalkeeper.

Sunderland, aware of the growing interest, has placed a £20 million price tag on Patterson, which could make him one of the most expensive transfers from the Championship. Whether it is West Brom, Liverpool, or Celtic, the summer transfer window is shaping up to be crucial for Patterson’s future.
