West Brom have received a major blow in their transfer pursuit of a Leeds United player.
Euro 2024 has already provided us with plenty of thrills and spills – last night, a wounded Scotland outfit played out an entertaining 1-1 against Switzerland in a game that could have gone either way.
In the meantime, let’s take a look at today’s transfer business and rumours in the Championship and we’ll also examine how West Bromwich Albion are getting on at the moment.
The Baggies have been handed some bad news in their transfer pursuit of a Leeds United player – additionally, Burnley have set an asking price for one of their top stars amid interest from moneybags Premier League outfit Newcastle United. But who is it?
West Brom receive blow in transfer race for Ian Poveda
West Brom have been heavily linked with a move for Leeds United winger Ian Poveda over the course of the ongoing summer transfer window. However, their pursuit of the player has hit something of a stumbling block – according to a report from the Sheffield Star, Poveda has entered ‘formal discussions’ with fellow Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
Poveda spent a period out on loan with the Owls last season, as they staged a dramatic great escape to avoid relegation back to League One at the end of the campaign. Poveda’s contract at Leeds will expire on June 30, as confirmed by the club – as such, he will become available to any potential suitors on a free transfer.
He made ten appearances for Wednesday in the Championship, as well as seven appearances for Leeds. While he will not be playing for the Whites next season, his next destination is yet to be finalised – though West Brom will need to act fast if they do not want to miss out on his services.
