From Wearing Motocross Merch as a Kid to Being Crowned the Best, Eli Tomac Stays Grounded: “I’m Not Ready to Call Myself a Legend Yet”

Motocross icon Eli Tomac has long been a household name in the world of dirt biking, but behind the victories, podiums, and roaring engines is a humble man who remembers exactly where he came from. In a recent interview, Tomac opened up about his journey from a young boy obsessed with motocross gear to being widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest riders.

“I used to wear motocross merch as a kid—jerseys, caps, whatever I could get my hands on,” Tomac recalled. “I dreamed of racing, but never thought I’d actually reach this level.”

Now a multiple-time AMA Supercross and Motocross Champion, Tomac has shattered records and overcome injuries to etch his name into history. Yet, despite his accolades, the Colorado native isn’t ready to embrace the “legend” title.

“People say I’m one of the best, and it means a lot,” Tomac said. “But I’m not ready to call myself a legend yet. I’m still learning, still pushing. The day I stop feeling that way is probably the day I’ll retire.”

Fans admire Tomac not only for his skill but also for his down-to-earth personality and relentless work ethic. Whether he’s signing autographs or charging through a muddy track, Tomac embodies the spirit of the sport.

With another season looming and speculation about his retirement swirling, Tomac remains focused on racing, not reputation. “I’ve got more to give,” he said with a smile. “The passion’s still there.”

As Eli Tomac continues to inspire the next generation of riders, one thing is certain—his humility is as legendary as his riding.
