Trey McKenney is thrilled to be recruited by Kentucky

New head coach Mark Pope has been working non-stop since being hired by the Kentucky Wildcats.

Pope brought in numerous guys from the transfer portal and is now working to recruit talented prospects at the high school level.

Recently, Pope and his staff spent the weekend in Indianapolis to watch and meet with prospects that could fit the mold of the new Kentucky program.

One name that has drawn interest from Kentucky is 5-star prospect Trey McKenney, who plays at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in Flint, Michigan.

McKenney balled out in front of the Kentucky staff, posting 27 points and three rebounds in an 86-77 win over Mac Irvin Fire.

Kentucky Sports Radio chatted with McKenney after his stellar performance in front of Alvin Brooks and others.

“It would mean a lot. I’ve been watching Kentucky since I was a kid growing up,” McKenney said.

McKenney was not being looked at by John Calipari’s staff during his tenure in Lexington, but Pope has other plans with the 6-foot-3 guard.

“You never think Calipari would leave Kentucky. But Kentucky itself, even before Calipari they were a powerhouse. Kentucky is one of the biggest schools in college basketball, so having them talk to me is a blessing,” McKenney stated.

McKenney has interest from Michigan, Michigan State, Connecticut, Georgetown, Indiana, Ohio State, USC, and UCLA as well. He’s currently ranked 14th overall in the class of 2025 by On3, 11th by Rivals, 17th by 247 Sports, and 13th by ESPN.
