Transfer blow for Arsenal & Liverpool! England winger Anthony Gordon set to sign bumper new long-term contract to stay at Newcastle

England winger Anthony Gordon is set to sign a bumper new long-term contract at Newcastle in what is a massive transfer blow to Arsenal & Liverpool.

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to The Mirror, the 23-year-old is expected to sign a deal that will keep him at Newcastle until June 2030, providing much-needed stability for both the player and the club. Gordon had reportedly caught the attention of Liverpool during the summer’s European Championships, but the talks fell through. He was also courted by Arsenal as Mikel Arteta was eyeing to strengthen his attack to mount a formidable title challenge in an attempt to dethrone Manchester City.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The new contract could be the boost he needs, as it will place him on par with Newcastle’s top earners. The deal is also expected to include a significant release clause, reportedly around £80 million ($107m) – double the amount that the Magpies paid to Everton to sign him in 2023.

WHAT HOWE SAID

When asked about Gordon’s new contract, manager Eddie Howe did not want to jump the gun and said: “You’re asking me to comment on something that hasn’t happened. With the potential of looking silly if it doesn’t. We love Anthony. We’d love him to commit his future here. We’d love him to stay long-term at Newcastle and continue his excellent start to his career here. When you look at the broader piece of what he’s done since he’s arrived at the football club, I think he’s been magnificent for us. We need to try and help him get back to his very best levels. And if that means signing a new contract, then I’m all for that, to help him be settled and concentrate on his football.

“He is still the same lad – focused on his career, wants to do well and perform. He was frustrated, like others, last week and sometimes that manifests itself in various ways. I was frustrated too, everyone else was. We have to be mindful of that. We love Anthony and want him to commit his future here and stay at Newcastle. Looking at what he has done here, he has been magnificent. We need to help him get to his best levels.”
