Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that as things stand, the Sunday evening fixture against Nottingham Forest in North London is due to go ahead despite a stabbing near the stadium
Tottenham Hotspur have issued a statement ahead of Sunday afternoon’s home clash with Nottingham Forest after a man was stabbed to death in Haringey outside the club’s stadium.
Spurs’ statement was issued just over four hours before kick-off, scheduled for 6pm, and read: “Following an incident in which an individual has lost their life, we are doing everything to accommodate the ongoing Police investigation, which is of the utmost importance.
“As things stand, this afternoon’s Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest will go-ahead as scheduled, however the north end of Worcester Avenue and the whole of Northumberland Park Road will remain closed throughout.
“We shall update supporters as and when we can, and ask for fans to be patient and allow extra travel time.”
Both the police and paramedics were called to Northumberland Park in the early hours of Sunday morning. As per the Metropolitan Police, a man was found with multiple stab injuries. CPR was administered but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Though no arrests have yet been made, police are thought to know who the man is and are working on informing his next of kin. Chief Inspector Stephen Johnston-Keay explained: “Our thoughts are with the man who has tragically lost his life.
“I can assure local people that specialist detectives are investigating and will leave no stone unturned in working to establish what happened to him, and to identify and arrest those responsible.
