Tottenham Hotspur are now said to be closely monitoring a forward who Pep Guardiola has been extremely complimentary about in the past.
Ange Postecoglou knows that it will take a summer of excellent recruitment to transform his team into a side that can compete for trophies.
In his two windows working alongside Daniel Levy thus far, Postecoglou has made some strong progress, but in truth the squad is still a long way from the manager’s end goal.
The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg still need to be moved on for example, and perhaps a striker finally needs to be signed to replace some of Harry Kane’s goals.
No easy task, but given how the club have operated since Postecoglou arrived, there’s reason to be optimistic.
Perhaps a lot of this summer’s business will depend on the club’s ability to get back into the Champions League, be it through fourth or maybe even fifth position.
But that being said, Mail Sport have now claimed that Tottenham are one of a few top clubs following RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.
Tottenham closely monitoring Spanish winger Dani Olmo
The information was initially detailing how Manchester United had joined the race to sign 25-year-old Olmo, who has a £52m-release-clause this summer.
But alongside United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Spurs are said to be closely monitoring the versatile attacker too.
Olmo was initially part of the Barcelona academy back in the day before he decided to head to Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb to further his career – a path that also worked for a certain Luka Modric.
And obviously the proof is now in pudding with Olmo being linked with all the top sides around Europe.
In terms of Olmo’s position, he is a natural as a number 10 or out wide on either wing, a profile that could really suit Spurs.
Pep Guardiola knew Dani Olmo would be a success in a top league
That being said, Pep Guardiola’s previous comments on the Spaniard after facing him in the Champions League may now be of interest to Tottenham fans.
Speaking after facing Zagreb in 2019, Guardiola said: “He’s a top player, he has a bright future, of course.
“His performance today shows it. About the transfer and the money he deserves, that is not the point. The point is he is an incredible player and I am pretty sure he is able to play in the strong leagues in Europe. Hopefully if Dinamo wants and he wants, it can happen.”
Of course, that prediction did come to fruition with Olmo now starring in the Bundesliga.
And there’s no doubt that if Tottenham did pursue a deal for the winger, then he’d certainly thrive under Postecoglou’s stewardship.
