San Francisco Defensive Coordinator Situation
According to reports this weekend, the San Francisco 49ers approached Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo about leading their defensive staff following their loss in Super Bowl 58. Five days after the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl, Spagnuolo signed an extension with the team.

“Though he recently signed a new contract to stay with the Chiefs, the 49ers were trying to land him, according to a league source. After parting ways with Steve Wilks, the 49ers plan to promote Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator. League sources confirmed that the team is expected to hire former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley as assistant head coach. ESPN first reported the news of those moves.”

Quickly after the Super Bowl, Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers released their Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilks from his duties. Shanahan had previously stated in an interview that he thought most staff would return. Quickly after, Wilks was let go.
