Sunderland rival Chelsea and Southampton in race for 19-year-old prospect

Sunderland have started the season better than most expected under Regis Le Bris.

The Black Cats haven’t had too active of a summer window to date and that led many fans to believe they may have a stuttering start to proceedings this season.

Simon Moore, a backup goalkeeper, Ian Poveda and Alan Browne are the only additions which have been for the first team and they do still lack depth and quality in some key areas.

However, with deadline day fast approaching it appears less and less likely Sunderland will fill all of the gaps in their squad.

One position not many expected them to reinforce was goalkeeper, but now reports in Ukraine suggest the Black Cats are chasing a deal for Krapyvtsov and are joined by Chelsea and Southampton who also have interest in the shot stopper

The 19-year-old goalkeeper is currently a free agent after leaving SC Dnipro last month.

He played for their youth teams, but never consistently broke into their first team plans. The young goalkeeper has impressed over in his home nation though and has played seven times for Ukraine’s U19 side.

He is being eyed by some top clubs in England as he searches for a new beginning, but this one would certainly be an addition for the academy teams initially.

Sunderland have already brought in Moore as backup to Anthony Patterson and Blondy Nna Noukeu to feature in the youth teams and be fringe to the first team, so another goalkeeper isn’t a priority but they must rate him highly.

Looking forward

Sunderland will almost definitely bring someone else in to bolster their first team before next Friday, it’s just a question of who and how many?

Le Bris’ side have won two from two so far in the Championship, which is already the same amount as the Black Cats won across the final 15 last season.

They are yet to concede a goal and look a much more complete side to what they did last season.

It is still far too early to determine whether they can maintain this across 46 long games, especially given their lack of depth in certain positions which some injury prone players.

However, they do look like an exciting side to watch this season. Their game plan and identity has been quite clear to see across the opening two games and blowing Sheffield Wednesday away last Sunday definitely sent a statement to the division.
