Without a doubt, Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson are two of the best basketball players of all time. During their respective primes, the two wowed fans with enormous stats and helped their clubs win several titles. Along the way, they became excellent friends, and Johnson has even described Jordan as the “strongest” opponent he has ever met. What you may not be aware of is that the two were once scheduled to compete in a one-on-one match that would be broadcast on pay-per-view. Yes, this was a true event, and we will discuss not only how it came about, but also why it did not occur.
The King of the Court was scheduled to air during the summer of 1990 and was billed as a must-see television show. On paper, it appears to be an excellent decision. I mean, pitting two of the NBA’s finest players against each other to determine who is the best? If that isn’t entertainment, I’m not sure what is. On the surface, it may appear to be a mystery why it did not happen. So, at the risk of rambling on, let’s look back at the history of this canceled basketball game.
