Son’s international future is up in the air
The South Korean Football Association revealed that Son Heung-min dislocated his finger following an argument with a teammate during the Asian Cup.
Son missed three Premier League games while in South Korea, but came off the bench in the 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion the previous time out, with two fingers strapped to his right hand.
It was later reported that Son had dislocated his finger in an altercation over table tennis with teammate Lee Kang-in, and the South Koreas FA have since confirmed the story.
“It happened when some young players went up to play table tennis, and Son Heung-min and other older players took issue with it,” a statement to the Yonhap News Agency read. “The players exchanged a few words and Son hurt his finger in the process.”
Lee himself has also apologised for his role in the incident.
“There was an article about me having a verbal argument with Son ahead of the Asian Cup semi-final,” the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder wrote on social media. “I am very sorry to disappoint football fans who always support the South Korea national team.
“I should follow senior players in the team, but I am sorry that I showed not nice behaviour to football fans. I apologise to all fans who were disappointed in me. I will try to be a better player and person helping senior and older players from now on.”
Son’s international future is up in the air after their shock elimination at the semi-final stage of the competition, sparking reports the 31-year-old could retire from international duty to focus on Spurs.
This season, Son has 12 goals in 21 league games, leading the squad in scoring.
