“I Sometimes Even Embarrass Myself” – Novak Djokovic Opens Up on Why He Hasn’t Retired Yet
Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has made an honest admission about his reasons for continuing to compete at the highest level, despite being one of the most accomplished players in tennis history. The Serbian star, who turns 38 this year, revealed that his motivation to keep playing is deeply personal, even if it sometimes leads to moments of self-doubt.
“I sometimes even embarrass myself,” Djokovic said in a recent interview. “I push my body and mind to the limit, and there are days when I wonder why I’m still doing this. But the truth is, I love the sport too much to walk away.”
Djokovic’s comments come amid increasing speculation about his retirement plans, especially with younger stars such as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner challenging his dominance. However, the world No. 1 remains determined to compete for more titles and believes he still has what it takes to win.
“As long as I feel I can compete at the highest level and fight for the biggest trophies, I’ll be here,” Djokovic added. “I still enjoy the process, the hard work, and the competition.”
The Serbian has shown no signs of slowing down, having won multiple titles in 2024 and maintaining his position at the top of the ATP rankings. However, he acknowledges that the day will come when he has to step away from the sport.
“When that moment comes, I’ll know it,” Djokovic admitted. “But for now, I still have unfinished business.”
With his relentless drive and passion, Djokovic remains a formidable force in tennis, proving that age is just a number when it comes to chasi
ng greatness.
