Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy agree over Nottingham Forest ‘nonsense’ controversy v Everton

Danny Murphy has agreed with Simon Jordan’s consensus that Nottingham Forest must be “metaphorically smacked” for their comments after the defeat to Everton.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side felt hard done by not being awarded three separate penalties against Ashley Young, prompting a scathing social media post following the Toffees’ 2-0 win.

Taking to X on Sunday (21 April), Forest insinuated that Stuart Attwell’s allegiances to Luton Town swayed his decision-making as the VAR official, with all three sides involved in the Premier League relegation battle.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (24 April, 10:09am), Jordan said: “Nottingham Forest should be metaphorically smacked because of the way they have behaved.

“They have every right to be unhappy and every right to request some sort of response to, what they consider to be, an unreasonable performance from a referee.

“There’s nothing wrong with that, but everything wrong with the matter they went about it. Lots of things need saying but sometimes they need to be said in a way that is more conducive than alleging that people are corrupt.”

Agreeing with his point, Murphy said: “I’m with Simon. We can talk about the standards of referees falling, but to suggest that someone is actually making decisions based on his allegiances is nonsense.”

Nottingham Forest controversies continue after Everton clash

Forest do have every right to feel frustrated by the controversial decisions during the match, but the reaction from the club was far from professional so punishment is expected.

While fans await to hear the VAR audio from Stockley Park during the match, the Toffees have quickly moved on after claiming an all-important three points at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s team can do nothing else but play their game, and that is exactly what happened, with Idrissa Gana Gueye and Dwight McNeil stepping up to secure the three points.

The Toffees are now five points above the dreaded dropzone, much to the frustration and anger of Forest, and will hope to continue their bettered form against Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

Everton Sean Dyche

Everton have been unable to defeat their rivals at Goodison Park in the last 14 years, and can only boast two victories over them since 2010.

However, with just five matches of the season remaining, Dyche’s team will be keen to take a positive result against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, who have struggled for form recently.
