Sarah Clapson thinks Nottingham Forest star should replace Gibbs-White on set-pieces

Nottingham Forest reporter Sarah Clapson has been explaining who she thinks should be taking the set pieces for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Forest have been truly abysmal from dead-ball situations this season. Whether it’s been defending them or sticking the ball in the net from them, it simply hasn’t happened.

A staggering 19 goals have been conceded from set pieces against Forest this season. At the other end, the Reds have scored just four times from their own dead-ball situations.

Quite simply, it won’t do and something has to give. Forest are now in the relegation zone after a four-point deduction and ultimately they have to be better at both ends of the pitch.

Sarah Clapson shares who she wants on Forest set-pieces

Well, it’s a hot topic of discussion. Earlier in the season, David Prutton explained why he felt Harry Toffolo should be taking them instead of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Now, Clapson has weighed into the debate over who should be taking them. She believes that Gibbs-White needs a rest from them and a certain defender deserves a chance to hit them instead.

She told Nottinghamshire Live: “I would give him (Gibbs-White) a break from set-pieces. Give Neco Williams a go as he as shown he’s good at them for Wales.”

The 21-year-old scored a thunderbolt of a free-kick for Wales against Finland last week. Forest star Williams was praised by the national media for his efforts and it does feel as though he’s got it in the locker.

Forest have to give Williams a go on free-kicks

In our view, it’s time for Gibbs-White to be stood down for a little while. What was the famous saying? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. Yet, here we are.

Against Luton last time out, Murillo almost scored from way inside his own half with a free kick. As a result, there are options within the squad and trying something different would be refreshing.

Forest haven’t even looked like scoring a goal directly from a free kick this season. Not since James Garner was on loan at the City Ground have the Reds scored from one and that simply won’t do.

Williams has been vastly improved for Forest during the 2023/24 campaign. Now, a new role could be waiting for him as the Reds try and crack the conundrum of set pieces.
