Monchi in talks to seal Aston Villa move for Kelechi Iheanacho Monchi is reportedly in talks over a possible summer move to bring 27-year-old Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho to Aston Villa.
According to a report by Football Insider, Kelechi Iheanacho is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a striker ahead of the summer transfer window, with the 27-year-old Leicester City attacker emerging as a target. And Monchi has already initiated the discussions to secure his services.
Kelechi Iheanacho and his Leicester City journey
Kelechi Iheanacho has blown hot and cold since joining Leicester City from Manchester City in August 2017. The Nigerian international, who has turned out 47 times thus far for his nation, has produced flashes of brilliance but has also flattered to deceive for large parts.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has fallen to third in the pecking order for strikers at the King Power Stadium, with Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka ahead of him in the preference list. However, Iheanacho has not helped his case either, managing only six goals and three assists in 26 outings, raking in 1,111 minutes of game time.
So, it is hardly surprising that Iheanacho faces an uncertain future at Leicester City heading into the summer transfer window. However, a big move within the Premier League might be on the cards, with Aston Villa keen on securing the services of the African striker.
Aston Villa interested
Aston Villa will delve into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window. While Unai Emery has used Ollie Watkins as his first-choice striker, the Englishman needs more rest, especially after playing most games thus far in the 2023/24 campaign. So, it behoves Aston Villa to invest in a striker in the coming weeks.
Kelechi Iheanacho has also emerged as a target for the West Midlands club ahead of the winter transfer window. And the continued interest makes sense, considering he will be an able backup to Watkins. Sporting director Monchi has thus opened talks over a possible summer move for the 27-year-old African striker.
The 47-cap Nigerian international will get the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League if he joins Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. However, regular game time will continue to elude him. So, it will be interesting to see how talks progress as Monchi looks to seal the deal for the Leicester City striker.
