Chicago Bulls and Zach LaVine might part ways during the summer
The Bulls plan to get several selections for Zach.
Probably the NBA’s worst-kept secret, the Chicago Bulls wanted to trade All-Star guard Zach LaVine this season. Despite discussions with the Detroit Pistons, the team’s front management was eventually unable to locate a suitable trade partner. LaVine’s foot injury and the surgery that followed prevented him from doing anything this season.
According to a source, LaVine is apparently recovering and rehabbing ahead of time. Despite this, the report says the Bulls need to go forward and find a method to get rid of LaVine, even if it means getting pennies on the dollar.
Obtain some LaVine draft selections.
LaVine’s high salary was the primary factor preventing Chicago from acquiring him this season. It’s getting harder to locate a willing trade partner now that he has a history of injuries. But with Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu emerging in LaVine’s absence, the Bulls could be better off cutting their losses and moving on from the expensive guard.
Chicago won’t receive a huge windfall, according to Greg Swartz, especially considering that Zach LaVine is only playing in 25 games this season and has three years and $138 million left on his deal.
“The Bulls’ best chance is to receive two first-round picks from a serious contender in addition to some salary relief.”
Bulls have prospered in LaVine’s absence.
LaVine is a gifted wingman who can put up 30 points with ease. When healthy, he is a spectacular sight to behold because to his silky-looking shot and nuclear athleticism, which enable him to frequently explode for massive dunks at the rim.
But for LaVine and the Bulls, that has been the problem. The former UCLA standout only appeared in 25 games this season. Chicago had a terrible 5-14 record at the end of November when he was benched. But by the time he did return, at the beginning of 2024, the Bulls had gained a lot of ground. In December, they had a 15-5 record because of Coby White’s frequent scoring adventures.
Not that LaVine isn’t a valuable member of the Bulls’ roster. Conversely, he has had moments of becoming a genuine star in this league. However, the squad has shown that they can succeed without him due to his iso-heavy style of play and inconsistent availability.
