Barcelona’s dreams of launching a late push for the league title were dashed when they were held to a goalless draw by Athletic Club.
The Catalans had a poor effort, failing to break through the opponent defence.
To make matters worse, Barcelona suffered injuries to two crucial players, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri.
Pedri risks missing the next Clasico.
Pedri’s injury, in particular, has the potential to strike a deep chord with both Barcelona fans and the player.
The Spaniard has already been injured twice this season and has spent significant time away from the field. And this latest blow suggests that he may be forced to sit out for another while.
In a recent article, AS provided an update on Pedri’s condition, indicating that the midfielder is at risk of missing the next Clasico on April 21.
Pedri, in fact, suffered the worst of the two blows. Tests have indicated that the player has a tear in the rector femoris of his right leg – the same blow he has been carrying for a year now.
Pedri to be out for five-six weeks
As per AS, everything suggests Pedri will be out for a period of five to six weeks. That means the Spaniard could be sidelined by the time Barcelona take on Real Madrid on April 21.
This should serve as a major blow for Barcelona, who have had minimal options in midfield this season due to a series of injuries throughout the course of the campaign.
Real Madrid, though, will be relieved by the potential absence of Pedri in this important encounter.
The game against Barcelona, after all, could serve as an opportunity for Los Blancos to put an end to the title race, once and for all.
Real Madrid host Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on the weekend of April 20-21. And Carlo Ancelotti is hoping to have the title race done and dusted before that game.
