Another Ridvan Yilmaz transfer update has emerged from Italy with the operation to sign the Rangers defender already “well-directed” at Serie A club Hellas Verona, according to Corriere Di Verona.
The Italian newspaper reported in their print edition [16 January, page 12] that Verona are still pushing to get the deal over the line in the January transfer window to replace Josh Doig.
This has come amid links with Turkish giants Galatasaray, who reportedly had a loan-to-buy offer of £3.4million rejected out of hand by Rangers. [Daily Record, 15 January]
Talks are starting to speed up
Yilmaz has been widely expected to leave Ibrox since the January transfer window opened, with Verona always seeming his most likely destination as their interest has been long-standing, with talks ongoing since the beginning of the window.
Galatasaray’s interest, meanwhile, has emerged more recently, although it is claimed the defender would opt against moving to the Turkish outfit through loyalty to his former club Besiktas and the rivalry between the two clubs.
Talks now appear to be speeding up for Yilmaz’s exit from Ibrox, with Verona well-placed to get that deal done in the coming weeks, although with only two weeks to go of the transfer window, those talks will need to speed up to get it over the line.
It also means Rangers will need a replacement as if Yilmaz leaves they could be left with just Borna Barisic at left-back, who has struggled with injuries this season and is widely expected to leave Ibrox come the end of his contract.
