Rangers “Media Speculations” Raise Doubts Over £5.1m Croatian Midfielder Pursuit

Rangers links to Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marko Bulat have been put down to “media speculations” in the Croatian press.

Reports in Scotland had claimed Rangers have made early enquires about the 22-year-old Croatian midfielder, with the club quoted €6m (£5.1m).

It comes with Rangers actively trying to improve their squad this January as Philippe Clement’s team looks to mount a plausible title challenge in the second half of the campaign.

But now reports in Croatia have put the brakes on the links by claiming that any suggestion of Rangers interest in Marko Bulat is still some way away from a transfer being completed.

Marko Bulat to Rangers “media speculations”

A report in Croatian newspaper Vecernji List (p.24, 17/01/24), claims that those Ibrox transfer links are also “not close to being realised”.

In a report which looks at the most valuable talents in the Croatian First League, the newspaper claims that as things stand Rangers links to Marko Bulat are only “media speculations”.

This is after the newspaper discussed the situations of Dinamo wonderkid Martin Baturina and Hadjuk Split star Rokas Pukstas.

An excerpt from the report reads:

“The slightly older Marko Bulat (22 years old) is mentioned in the context of Glasgow Rangers and compensation of six million euros, but for now these are only media speculations that are not close to being realized.”

This comes after established transfer journalist Graeme Bailey told us that he “hadn’t heard” of any interest in Marko Bulat, although he stopped short of rubbishing the links.

Rangers in hunt for Dinamo Zagreb Croatian midfielder?

Whilst Rangers may well have made enquiries about Marko Bulat as per those original reports, it appears that any Ibrox deal is not remotely close to completion.

The transfer fee attached to the 22-year-old midfielder, who has made 23 appearances and scored five goals for Dinamo this season, always made a January switch unlikely.

Perhaps this could be a deal Rangers look at towards the summer but fans will raise eyebrows about the suggestions of a £5m+ move for the Croatian U21 international.

The Ibrox side have a strong history of Croatian players at the club, with Dado Prso, Nikica Jelavic, Niko Kranjcar, and Nikola Katic all turning out for Rangers in the past.

Interestingly, the club’s resident Croatian stalwart Borna Barisic has also been strongly linked with a return to the Balkans and Dinamo Zagreb as his contract ticks down at Ibrox.
