Rangers: Brighton Chief Shares Stance On Abdallah Sima After Two Trips To Scotland

Brighton chief Gordan Greer has shared the Seagulls’ stance on Abdallah Sima’s loan spell with Rangers after making two trips to Ibrox to see the Light Blues’ forward.

The 22-year-old has been in electric form this season, scoring 15 goals and picking up two assists in 33 appearances for the Light Blues in all competitions with many pundits suggesting Rangers should make his stay permanent.

While Greer hasn’t discussed the possibility of a permanent move, Brighton’s pathway development manager has admitted that he’s been impressed by Sima’s performances and he is more than happy with him remaining in Glasgow.

Rangers

As quoted by the Scottish Herald (11 January) he said: “I was up there a few weeks ago. I’ve been up twice in the last few weeks to see him and he’s a great kid. It wasn’t easy at the start for him, but he’s banging a few goals in and it’s great to see him doing so well. He has got some really good and strong attributes.

“You can see it in the games, especially sometimes when they play a wee bit deeper and you can see him explode into the space. So he’s a great lad, he’s done really well and we are really happy with him.

“We’re really happy. Last year he was with Angers in France and I monitored him over there. The club were happy that he was getting the minutes, but they were not a great side. They struggled in a lot of games, so flipped it on its head this year.

“He’s gone to a team that should be sort of knocking the door down in Rangers, so he’s getting the chances and scoring the goals, which is great for him. So we are really happy with how he is doing.”

Keep pushing

It’s good to hear that Brighton are more than happy with Sima’s current situation at Ibrox as that should hopefully reduce the chances of the Seagulls recalling the Senegalese forward during the January transfer window.

Robert De Zerbi’s side have been suffering with injuries this season and have opted to bring a number of their loanees back to the Amex Stadium, but it seems as though Sima will not be one of those heading back to the south coast.

Rangers

While a lot of Michael Beale’s summer signings at Ibrox have failed to live up to expectations, Sima has been nothing short of superb in a blue shirt and it is not surprising that so many supporters want to see him signed permanently.

If the 22-year-old is enjoying his time in Glasgow as much as Greer has suggested, there could be a permanent deal to be struck come the summer transfer window, but for now, Rangers will just be hoping Sima returns from the AFCON fit and injury-free.
