Premier League star admits insider Newcastle chats after wild £50m bid got rejected

Newcastle saw a £50million bid for a Premier League star turned down on transfer deadline day.

Premier League star Anthony Elanga has admitted he spoke to Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after the Magpies missed out on the chance to sign the winger from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day at the end of August. Elanga has impressed since joining the east Midlands giants from Manchester United last summer.

Newcastle were desperate to bolster their squad in the closing stages of the summer transfer window but were rebuffed after submitting a £35million bid to Forest in exchange for Elanga’s services.

The north east club then reportedly tabled a package worth £50m, which Forest also turned down.

Elanga would have linked up with his Sweden team-mate Isak if he had secured a move to St James’ Park.

The duo have been in Nations League action in recent days, with Sweden defeating Azerbaijan 3-1 on Thursday before seeing off Estonia 3-0 on Sunday.
