In the upcoming weeks, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal may lose important players.
A potential one-match ban is looming for three players from Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal as they approach the Premier League’s yellow card limit. According to Premier League regulations, a player will miss one match in the same competition if they receive five yellow cards in their team’s first 19 league games.
In England’s top flight, thirteen players are currently sitting on four bookings. They include Kai Havertz of Arsenal, Bruno Fernandes of United, and Yves Bissouma of Spurs.
Some think the latter, who recklessly tackled Sean Longstaff last weekend against Newcastle, was lucky not to be sent off. Fortunately for both him and the Magpies star, the German midfielder only made contact with his trailing leg as he came hurtling off the ground with his studs showing.
Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schar, and even Longstaff, who was on the receiving end of the tackle, were all booked for dissent after challenging referee Stuart Attwell’s decision. However, former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher believes Attwell and the VAR team that checked over the challenge got it right.
Although he felt Havertz was lucky to complete the game after continuing to lunge in recklessly, “If he had gotten a red card, he couldn’t argue. It’s quite ironic that history has rewritten itself on Saturday,” he told Sky Sports.
“This reminds me so much of Mateo Kovacic a few weeks ago, where I think he was right on the cusp of getting a red card and he got a yellow card. I think, again, the referee has given the benefit of the doubt here.
