After Playing For Newcastle Against Dortmund Last Night, Lewis Miley Shares A Heartfelt Message On Instagram

Tuesday night in the Champions League was not a vintage one for Newcastle United.

With their second straight victory over Eddie Howe’s team, Borussia Dortmund gave Newcastle a mountain to climb in the group.

This season, the visitors haven’t exactly been outmatched in any of their European matches, but it appeared like one game too many for this injured team.

In fact, due to a dearth of available players, Howe was forced to use Tino Livramento out of position and was unable to even add replacements to his bench.

Even though they were defeated, Livramento left a positive impression, which is encouraging.

In his season-opening senior club debut, Lewis Miley made history as the youngest player to represent Newcastle in the Champions League.

Newcastle’s injuries: Miley’s chance

Well received for his preseason performances, it’s unfortunate that glandular fever has prevented Miley from playing a larger role.

However, the opportunity Newcastle’s injury crisis presents to young players is undoubtedly a good thing.

Miley might be able to take advantage of the same opportunity that Livramento has taken and run with it. Moreover, Bruno Guimaraes’ suspension for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth further reduces the options available in the midfield.

Howe seemed to like Miley, and he might give him a chance to start the season.

A strong showing would be greatly appreciated given the injuries and suspensions that are plaguing him.

He posted, “Not the outcome we wanted last night; support was top as always.”
