Philippe Clement Could Choose To Depart Rangers After Claiming A Transfer Target

It’s only a few weeks until the transfer window opens again when, hopefully, Philippe Clement will be given the funds that he needs to strengthen Rangers.

A squad that the Gers manager has labelled as imbalanced needs to have players moved on but additions made where there is a shortage of depth and quality.Philippe Clement taking Rangers transfer stock as boss reaches halfway point on road to January masterplan – Daily Record

A recent transfer report claimed that a left-back and striker were a priority for Philippe Clement and comments made this week by chairman John Bennett seem to back this up.

Philippe Clement could move on a couple of big earners at Rangers

On the face of it, there seems to be too many midfielders and not enough wingers, there are also not enough strikers or goalscorers of the desired quality.

At left-back, you can question whether or not Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz are good enough, however, they are both international defenders.

This though, is where a report by former Sky Sports reporter Pete O’Rourke claimed that Philppe Clement was looking to strengthen for Rangers, left-back and striker.

Despite the numbers in the squad, comments made at the AGM suggest that this could be an area of improvement after Bennett reflected on the players who are out of contract at the end of the season and how that is another way that a rebuild could be constructed.

And who is out of contract at the end of this season?

Kemar Roofe and Borna Barisic.

Two internationals, two experienced players and both on big wages.

It could be a case of two plus two equals five, but it is a bit of a coincidence.

Two individuals who appear to have come to the natural end of their respective time at Ibrox, after all, could you see Philippe Clement rebuilding his Rangers team but keep the two 30-somethings around?

The manager has been exasperated in recent weeks at the robustness of the squad with Barisic, and especially Roofe, having a history of injury – this isn’t going to improve as they get older either.

One thing is certain, Clement doesn’t have the sentimentality of his predecessor and won’t think twice about releasing those who he has even the slightest doubt about.
