Nathan Cleary Rejects Record $205 Million NIL Offer from Brisbane Broncos: “My Loyalty Lies with the Panthers”

Penrith Panthers star halfback Nathan Cleary has reportedly turned down a historic $205 million NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) offer from the Brisbane Broncos, reaffirming his commitment to the Panthers. The staggering deal, which would have made Cleary one of the highest-paid athletes in Australian sports history, was aimed at luring the premiership-winning playmaker to Queensland.

Despite the record-breaking sum, Cleary remained steadfast in his loyalty to the Panthers, the club where he has built his legacy. “My heart is with Penrith,” Cleary said in a statement. “I’ve grown up here, won premierships here, and this team is my family. Money can’t buy the bond I have with this club and our fans.”

The Broncos’ offer was structured as a groundbreaking NIL deal, allowing Cleary to capitalize on his brand while playing in Brisbane. With Cleary’s status as one of the NRL’s most marketable players, the Broncos saw him as a franchise-defining acquisition who could elevate their commercial and on-field success. However, Cleary’s rejection underscores his commitment to the Panthers’ dynasty, which has seen the club win three consecutive NRL premierships.

Panthers CEO Matt Cameron praised Cleary’s decision, stating, “Nathan is not just our halfback; he’s the heart and soul of this club. His loyalty and leadership set an example for every player coming through our system.”

Brisbane will now look elsewhere for a marquee signing, while Cleary remains focused on securing another premiership with Penrith. With his contract at the Panthers running through 2027, the 26-year-old playmaker is determined to cement his legacy as one of the greatest to ever wear the black

and gold.
