Paul Mitchell’s arrival at Newcastle United created a lot of waves within the club with Eddie Howe

Paul Mitchell’s arrival at Newcastle United created a lot of waves within the club with Eddie Howe being particularly guarded after his arrival.

In an interview held at the Adidas World of Sport HQ in the summer, Eddie Howe made sure that the board knew, in no uncertain terms, that if Paul Mitchell disrupts the way he works, then he would reconsider his future at the club.

It was more a case of Howe laying down the law than threatening to leave, but it certainly gave the club, and the fans, plenty to think about.

However, Eddie Howe isn’t the only one uncomfortable with Mitchell’s arrival as head scout Steve Nickson, who had applied for the sporting director position before Mitchell was hired, is also frustrated with things behind the scenes.

Steve Nickson is taking courses to become a sporting director

The Daily Mail have reported that Nickson has been given a lesser role at the club but despite his frustrations, has no desire to leave the club.

Nickson is taking the courses necessary to become a sporting director himself despite failing in his bid to take over the role at Newcastle.

He could just be biding his time until he’s completed his courses and then he could leave the club to become a sporting director elsewhere.
