Nuno’s Latest Decision Surely Spells The End For 26-Year-Old At Nottingham Forest – Opinion

Worrall didn’t start games against Blackpool and Brentford over the last week and now questions have to be asked.

After failing to get on the pitch in the 3-2 defeat against the Bees on Saturday, surely it’s only a matter of time before Worrall leaves Forest.

Joe Worrall must be on borrowed time at Forest

It’s been a tricky season for the Forest captain so far during 2023/24.

Worrall began the 2023/24 campaign as a regular under Steve Cooper, starting the first five games of the season.

However, after a 1-1 draw with Burnley in September, he was an unused substitute for the next three Premier League games.

He returned to action for the final 12 minutes of a 2-2 draw with Luton in October – and was at fault for both Hatters goals as the Reds threw away a two-goal lead.

Then it came to light that Worrall had endured a bit of a spat with Cooper and that resulted in him not making the matchday squad for eight consecutive games.

Worrall came on for the final minute of a 3-1 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day but that’s his only league action for Forest since October.

Worrall now suffers damaging setback

Espirito Santo gave Worrall the chance to shine in the FA Cup against Blackpool – which Forest drew 2-2 at the City Ground.

However, for the replay – and for Saturday’s game at Brentford – Espirito Santo went with Andrew Omobamidele in his place.

The Republic of Ireland international performed well in both games and at the weekend, Worrall wasn’t required from the bench.

Yesterday, it came to light that Sheffield United are keen to sign Worrall, with Leicester, Middlesbrough and West Ham having been linked before.

After 226 appearances for Forest, it might prove a gutwrenching decision for Worrall to choose to leave.

However, this past week has surely showcased to him that football under Espirito Santo is unlikely to be forthcoming any time soon.

Better players than Worrall will be back in the fold after the African Cup of Nations and now the Forest captain’s days are surely numbered at the club.
