Nottingham Forest transfer news: Old rumour resurfaces after bid rejected for €40m-rated winger

A hint of interest in Udinese defender Jaka Bijol has resurfaced with Nottingham Forest one of three Premier League clubs to have made an inquiry for the defender.

In the aftermath of an impressive Euro 2024 run to the round of 16 with Slovenia, central defender Bijol became hotly rumoured to make a switch to the City Ground this summer. Helping to fuel the rumours was the club’s desperate need for defensive recruits – something that was at least partially addressed through Nikola Milenkovic’s arrival last month.

But Forest could end up dipping into the Italian market again, this time looking to Udine instead of Florence, as Messaggero Veneto provides a fresh update in this unfolding saga.

They list Bijol as one of four Udinese players the club remain open to transfer negotiations over prior to deadline day. However, in these cases, price tags have been set so it would be up to any potential buyers to strike an accord over payment terms alone.

Should Forest make a move for the 25-year-old, it would therefore cost them €23m (£19.6m). Presently they face fierce competition from the Premier League – an unnamed ‘big club’ plus West Ham United – as well as Stuttgart and Wolfsburg in Germany.
