Nottingham Forest Could Consider Signing Goalkeeper Who Steve Cooper Once Called ‘Brilliant’ This Month

Nottingham Forest could now return with another bid to sign Keylor Navas for the second January in succession.

So, what has been said about Navas – and will he return to Forest this month? Let’s take a closer look…

Nottingham Forest could try to sign Keylor Navas again

Well, it looks as though the PSG stopper could be on the City Ground radar once again.

According to The Irish Sun, Evangelos Marinakis is ready to sanction some funds for a new goalkeeper – with Navas in his sights as one option.

Navas signed for the Reds in January 2023 when the club wanted to sign a new goalkeeper with Dean Henderson injured.

The experienced performer produced a decent performance on his debut against Leeds, with Steve Cooper calling him ‘brilliant’.

In total, he made 17 appearances for the Reds, with Navas keeping a couple of clean sheets for Forest.

The 2023/24 campaign has been a frustrating one for the three-time Champions League winner.

He picked up a back injury in a 1-0 win over Arsenal last season and has been restricted to just two cup appearances during the current campaign.

Navas could be ideal short term fix for Nuno Espirito Santo

The situation involving Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos has become pretty untenable with both making mistakes of late.

Forest know Navas and they likely view him as an upgrade on the two current stoppers at the club.

The 37-year-old would only be a short-term fix and he is out of contract with PSG during the summer.

If Forest are hot on Navas then perhaps there is a conversation to be had about the salary that he’d receive at the City Ground.

Navas earns around £200,000-a-week at PSG and there is no chance he gets that from Forest.

If a deal can be struck that only sees Forest take on a small percentage of his salary, Navas would likely be a popular signing among the fan base.
