Nottingham Forest have completed a deal to sign Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson – with the deal costing around £35 million.

The Reds sold Odysseas Vlachodimos to St James’ Park as a makeweight and that’s offset some of the fee that Forest have paid

Anderson did want to stay at Newcastle but they were in serious danger of breaching the latest round of PSR and had to make a sale.

Forest have stepped in and bolstered their midfield ranks with a player who could become a very sound addition in the years to come.

Anderson has already been unveiled at the City Ground and now the signing has been explained in a little bit more detail.

How Nottingham Forest staff feel about Elliot Anderson signing

It’s fair to say that this deal has come out of the blue somewhat on Trentside.

Anderson was first linked with a move to Forest on Friday and by Sunday the deal had been signed, sealed and delivered.

According to Nick Miller writing for The Athletic, Forest always assumed that Anderson would be out of reach this summer.

Furthermore, the midfield areas wasn’t something that the club were hellbent on strengthening this summer.

However, the consensus was that Anderson was the right player for the club and as a result, they’ve decided to take action.

Forest have a host of midfield options, with Ryan Yates, Danilo, Nicolas Dominguez and Ibrahim Sangare all going to compete with Anderson for a shirt.

Anderson could become first-team regular pretty quickly

Forest might have just hit the jackpot here and Newcastle may feel they’ve missed a trick in a few years.

Anderson should quickly establish himself as a first-team regular, with only Danilo really cementing his place in the team last season.

The man signed from Newcastle does offer something a little bit different to the other four midfielders too.

He’s renowned for his ability to not only keep the ball but also progress it and his dribbling attribute could slip under the radar.

Anderson fits the profile of the kind of signing that Forest should be making.

He’s a young talent, boasting bags of potential and although the transfer fee feels high, it could prove a steal if he gets his feet under the table quickly and starts producing the goods.
