Nottingham Forest bid £17m for Brazilian striker who comes alive in the penalty area

The search for a new striker at Nottingham Forest has taken a turn for the worse in the last 24 hours, with two top targets now off the table.

First, Eddie Nketiah rejected a move to Forest after deciding that he’d rather remain in London if he leaves Arsenal.

Then, yesterday, it appeared that Santiago Gimenez had agreed to join the club before a change of heart at the eleventh hour to leave Forest stunned.

Now, Forest like the look of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa but there appear to be a few names floating around on the list that the club are looking at.

Nottingham Forest make official bid for Flamengo striker Pedro

According to Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande, Forest have submitted a bid of £17 million for Pedro who currently plays for Flamengo.

The striker is very much the top striker at the Brazilian top-flight outfit but he might be allowed to move on before the European deadline.

It’s claimed that Forest have held a long-standing interest in the services of Pedro and Evangelos Marinakis recently visited Rio de Janeiro.

The 27-year-old has been a man on a mission for Flamengo during 2023/24, scoring 29 goals in 42 appearances and claiming eight assists.

It’s not clear at this stage whether the bid will be accepted and Flamengo might want to recoup a little bit more for Pedro.

Pedro would have it all to prove with Forest

At 27, Pedro is probably in his prime but it would seem very late for him to be making a foray into European football.

His only other spell on the continent came with Fiorentina but after just four games he was back in Brazil.

It would perhaps be a bit harsh to judge him solely on that spell given that he was recovering from a serious knee injury but it would still provide some concern.

Pedro would likely fancy the move to England and South American football expert Tim Vickery is a big fan.

In 2022, he was linked with Leeds and delivered some information on the striker with that interest in mind.

He told Sky Sports: “He’s not quick, but he is very, very good in the penalty area. He’s an excellent finisher and he’s very technically accomplished.”

Forest do now need a striker, however, and it’s fair to say that time isn’t on the club’s side.

The transfer window closes on Friday night and right now, it feels like another hectic deadline day could be in store for Forest.
