Ryan Yates insists the focus of Nottingham Forest’s players has been unaffected by the club’s problems off the pitch.
The Reds have been charged with breaking the Premier League’s financial rules and referred to an independent commission for alleged breaches of profit and sustainability rules in their accounts for 2022-23. Clubs that breach those rules are at risk of a fine or a points deduction.
Nottingham Forest’s Ryan Yates and Blackpool’s CJ Hamilton battle for the ball during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round replay at Bloomfield Road.
In their first match since being charged by the Premier League, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side beat Blackpool 3-2 in an FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday night. And speaking after the match, Reds midfielder Yates was asked about the importance of a win after a tough few days for the club.
“Absolutely,” he said. “As players we just focus on ourselves. We focus on what we’re in control of and that’s our performances, our day to day work.
“Obviously in the Cup you want to get through to the next round so we’re delighted and we’re looking forward to the next game.”
In its statement on Monday, the Premier League said Forest and also Everton “have each confirmed that they are in breach of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules”.
It added: “This is as a result of sustaining losses above the permitted thresholds for the assessment period ending season 2022-23.
“In accordance with Premier League rules, both cases have now been referred to the chair of the judicial panel, who will appoint separate commissions to determine the appropriate sanction.”
