Newcastle United transfer target left out of squad ahead of ‘likely’ St James’ Park move

Newcastle United are pushing to sign the former Manchester City defender.

Newcastle United reportedly remain frontrunners to sign Fulham central defender Tosin Adarabioyo this summer.

The 26-year-old is out-of-contract at the end of next month and hasn’t appeared for the Cottagers since rejecting their latest offer. Adarabioyo was omitted from the matchday squad for the remaining four matches of the 2023-24 season.

Manchester United are the latest club to be linked with a move for Adarabioyo but according to the Daily Mail, an offer has not been made and it remains “likely” he will end up at St James’ Park

Adarabioyo has made 132 appearances for Fulham since joining from Manchester City four years. Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also among those to have shown an interest but the former England youth international is understood to be impressed by Newcastle’s project and Eddie Howe as a head coach.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have also held talks with AFC Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly as he too prepares to become a free agent in the next month or so. The 25-year-old – signed by Howe from Bristol City in 2019 – has appeared 141 times for the Cherries and was captain when they were promoted back to the Premier League in 2021-22.

Kelly gestured to the travelling Bournemouth fans following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea. Asked if Kelly’s applause to the fans at full-time was a farewell, manager Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo: “It looked like this.

“I think he has to be the one giving the reasoning. But I think right now, with the season ending, I see it very difficult (he stays). I think probably he will play somewhere else.

“The only thing I can play is I thank him for everything, because he has given everything until the last minute. Today, even in the last minutes, he tried to help us.

“Performance-wise, his season has been very good. Probably he hasn’t played the games that he wanted because of the injuries, but I will repeat it again, he is one of our best players.”

Kelly can operate at either centre-back or left-back but is injury record is something consider having missed 15 Premier League this season.
