Newcastle United formally call off transfer negotiations after failing to agree fee

Newcastle United call off Charlotte FC talks over Miguel Almiron

NEWCASTLE UNITED have called off discussions with Charlotte FC after the MLS side failed to meet the Magpies’ asking price for Miguel Almiron.

Charlotte officials had been holding talks with the hierarchy at St James’ Park in the hope of being able to sign Almiron ahead of the US transfer deadline at midnight this evening.

However, their initial offer for the Paraguay international was regarded as way too low, with Newcastle adamant they would only entertain offers of £16m or more.

Charlotte’s bid was significantly below that figure, and with little sign of the US club getting anywhere close to the Magpies’ asking price, talks were curtailed without an agreement.

While Almiron, who is contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2026, could still leave later this month, with the Magpies known to be in the market for a new right winger, Eddie Howe will now focus on ensuring the South American is in the right frame of mind for Saturday’s opening Premier League game against Southampton.

As things stand, either Almiron or Jacob Murphy is likely to start on the right of Newcastle’s front three against the Saints.
