Newcastle submit offer to sign £20 million-rated Chelsea, goalkeeping target

Newcastle United have reportedly submitted a £16 million offer to sign James Trafford, with Burnley holding out for £20 million.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have reporteldy made a 16 million offer to sign Burnley keeper James Trafford. The Clarets are holding out for at least 20 million to sell the stopper, as there’s considerable interest from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and even Bayern Munich.

Newcastle United makes James Trafford bid

Newcastle United have seen a change in transfer plans as soon as Manchester United took their European spot. The lack of continental football will affect their spending, and as it is, the Magpies are one of the clubs needing to sell before they can buy this summer.

While they have some fundamental requirements to strengthen their squad, a goalkeeper is also seen as an essential arrival. The Magpies are not particularly looking for a No.1, with Nick Pope their preferred choice in that role, but Eddie Howe wants a deputy who is capable of challenging for the central spot. Aaron Ramsdale was a target, but the Arsenal man does not want the move to be No.2, and the Magpies cannot afford him.

They have had links to Giorgi Mamardashvili, among others, but again, the price point is something they are mindful of. Now, the Magpies have made a £16 million bid for James Trafford, who got relegated with Burnley last season, as Howe wants the England keeper to come in and compete with Pope for a place.

Burnley are holding out for £20 million and are aware of the growing interest in the keeper. Trafford would relish the opportunity to make a return to the Premier League or top-flight football in general. Newcastle could further hold talks with the Clarets to come to a consensus about the keeper’s final asking price.

Tremendous interest in James Trafford

Vincent Kompany, who became Bayern Munich’s manager, wants to bring James Trafford as a deputy to Manuel Neuer. The keeper’s ball-playing aspects are what many clubs are looking at the £20 million-rated star as an option. Liverpool are also thought to hold an interest, as the Maerseysiders are about to sell Caoimhin Kelleher and will want to bring an able deputy to Alisson Becker.

Chelsea are also keen on Trafford, as they want to create an environment with young players and bring about intense competition for places. Should they sell Robert Sanchez and bring the Burnley star, then the £20 million-rated will see the opportunity as a platform to become the club’s No.1 choice and probably his best chance to play regularly among all the other options, including Newcastle.
