Netflix to Release Highly Anticipated Simone Biles Documentary, “THE DARK HORSE”, on July 25

Netflix has announced the release date for its powerful new sports documentary, “THE DARK HORSE”, chronicling the extraordinary journey of gymnastics icon Simone Biles. The film is set to premiere on July 25, just ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, and promises to offer an unflinching look into the life, struggles, and legacy of one of the greatest athletes in history.

“THE DARK HORSE” dives beyond Biles’ unmatched medal count and high-flying routines to explore the personal battles she faced behind the scenes — including mental health struggles, public pressure, and her role in speaking out against abuse within the sport. The documentary includes never-before-seen footage from training sessions, candid interviews with Biles and her inner circle, and emotional moments from her withdrawal and eventual return to competition.

Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, the film blends cinematic storytelling with raw authenticity, aiming to humanize an athlete often seen as superhuman. Netflix says the title, “THE DARK HORSE”, reflects Biles’ resilience in rising above adversity — not as an outsider, but as someone who continues to defy expectations even after reaching the pinnacle of her sport.

“The world sees the medals. This film shows the scars,” DuVernay said in a press release. “Simone’s story isn’t just about gymnastics — it’s about courage, accountability, and survival.”

Fans, athletes, and critics alike are eagerly awaiting the release. With the Olympics around the corner and Biles poised for yet another comeback, “THE DARK HORSE” arrives at a defining moment — a portrait of vulnerability, strength, and what it means to truly fight for yourself.

The documentary will be available for streaming globally on Netflix starti

ng July 25.
