Neil Lennon and Kris Boyd square off live on Sky Sports over Rangers’ championship credentials in a recent Celtic decision.

Kris Boyd and Neil Lennon disagreed on whether Rangers could unseat Celtic to win the Scottish Premiership after the Light Blues’ loss to Motherwell.

Despite an outstanding penalty from James Tavernier in the second half, Stuart Kettlewell’s team defeated Philippe Clement’s team 2-1 at Ibrox on Saturday, March 2, missing the opportunity to close the gap with the Hoops at the top of the Premiership standings.

Even though it was the Gers’ first defeat at Ibrox under the Belgian manager, Lennon isn’t sure they have what it takes to topple the Hoops and win the league this year, based on the way the Rangers lost.

Speaking on Sunday, March 3, at 11:09 a.m. on Sky Sports Main Event, he stated: “The outcome of yesterday will raise questions about their qualifications in the eyes of some people.” In terms of Rangers, they exist, but I’m not quite sold on them yet. Are you persuaded?

“I’m convinced, they were totally written off, out of it not that long ago, now they’re back in the title race and there’s a title race on,” Boyd swiftly retaliated.

Lennon responded, saying: “Listen, if Rangers win the league, they deserve to win the league but at the minute I’m not convinced.”

Will Rangers be able to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season?

One result will not define this season’s title race and even if it does, it won’t be the Gers’ defeat on Saturday. Both Rangers and Celtic will drop points between now and the end of the season as this title race goes down to the wire.

Not too long ago, analysts suggested that the Hoops’ bad play and unimpressive January hiring had given Clement the title; now, they claim that the Gers had done the same.

Rangers just need to get better against the Hoops because they have two more Old Firm games left before the season ends. Those derby matches will probably be the deciding games in the race for the championship.

Hopefully, Clement’s team will recover swiftly from their lackluster Europa League loss to Benfica on Saturday. A strong performance in Europe will rewrite the history of the title race.
