Morgan Rogers To Aston Villa Transfer Latest: Bid Rejected And Middlesbrough Stance On Sale

Aston Villa have been rebuffed in their first attempt to sign Morgan Rogers as their opening offer was rejected out of hand by Middlesbrough.

Boro will allow Rogers to leave this month if their valuation of him is met, while the versatile forward is interested by the possibility of linking up with Unai Emery. However, Boro are believed to be in a strong position as far as any further negotiations go.

Rogers is only six months into a four-year contract at the Riverside, having joined from Manchester City in the summer. A move to Villa would see Rogers return home to the West Midlands having come through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion before he left for City in 2019.

Rogers was the hottest prospect in English football at the time of his move to City when he was only 17 years old. The Halesowen-born attacker worked with many of the coaches which have left West Brom to work at Villa, including the club’s academy manager Mark Harrison.

He turned 21 back in July, nearly three weeks after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Riverside. His long-term contract with Boro gives the Teesside club more reason to stand firm on their valuation.

Rogers was out on loan at Blackpool during the second half of last season, where he made 20 League One appearances for the Tangerines. His best loan spell came at Lincoln City in 2021 when he scored six and registered four to help the Imps reach the League One play-off final.

Villa have already traded with Boro this January, as Finn Azaz left to join them in a deal worth £2.5million after his loan spell at Plymouth Argyle was cut short.
