Michy Batshuayi puts in a pin in those Rangers links once and for all and sends a Fenerbahce message with his latest goal of the club.
The Belgian international striker, 30, was linked with a surprise winter move to the Ibrox giants after a disagreement over a lack of minutes in Turkey.
Journalists in the country had claimed that an exit was imminent with an Instagram post of the striker in Dubai appearing to show him outside of the country.
But that was not the case as Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score in Fenerbahce’s 7-1 Super Lig romp over Konyaspor to maintain their lead at the top of the Super Lig.Michy Batshuayi silences talk of imminent Rangers switch to send Fenerbahce message
Michy Batshuayi scores as Fenerbahce romp Konyaspor
Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko showed exactly why he’s been preferred to Michy Batshuayi as the leading Fenerbahce frontman netted a first-half hattrick in the stunning showing.
The legendary former Manchester City and Inter Milan striker might be 37-years-old but he continues to be lethal in front of goal for Fenerbahce.
Taking his scoring stats to 20 goals in 24 games since his summer switch to the club, Edin Dzeko got some well earned rest with Michy Bathsuayi coming off the bench at half-time.
With Mert Mulder and Sebastian Szymanski adding goals four and five before the break, Ibrox-linked Batshuayi made it six within 15 minutes of the restart. The Belgian striker touched a through ball over the top down and around the keeper before tapping it into an empty net and certainly didn’t celebrate like a man who wants to leave Turkey.
Konyaspor defender Ugurcan Yazgili would then net an own goal before Brazilian counterpart Guilherme added a late consolation for the Super Lig relegation candidates.
Fenerbahce meanwhile look like a very talented side and in a neck-and-neck title race with Galatasaray they currently sit three points clear having played a game more.
Rangers striker hunt continues in transfer window
Michy Batshuayi is playing second fiddle to Edin Dzeko at Fenerbahce with good reason but the Turks are clearly eager to involve both players in their matches.
The Bosnian striker is one of European football’s elite marksmen whilst Michy Batshuayi has scored goals in Belgium, France, England, Spain, Germany, and at national team level.
It’s clear the club want both to stick around with president Ali Koc claiming that the exit choice this January is with Batshuayi who remains valued in Turkey.
Fenerbahce are certainly well-stocked in the striker department and as those Michy Batshuayi reports cool as quickly as they warmed up Rangers fans will now direct their attentions elsewhere.
Philippe Clement’s hunt for a new marksman continues in the transfer window with Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis and Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland the most recently linked.
Leeds United talent Joe Gelhardt has also been tipped as a potential Rangers target.
