Michael Stewart Is Making A Sly Jab At Rangers’ Penalty Kick As Tavernier’s Goal Total Could Rise If He Continues To Receive “Two Per Game.”

James Tavernier’s goal total this season could rise to any heights, Michael Stewart joked, especially if he continues to receive “two penalties a game.”

The Rangers captain beat Livingston with a penalty kick to score his 11th goal of the year, but not before he had hammered an earlier penalty kick high and wide of the post. This means that six of his 11 attempts this season have come from 12 yards, and the two that he has missed are the ones that occurred at Almondvale and Hearts earlier in the season.

Just over half (58) of the 112 goals he has scored for the Gers so far have come from the penalty spot. His most recent conversion has him tied for first place on the Premiership scoring lists, and his six goals put him in the running for the Golden Boot with Celtics’ Matt O’Riley, Kyogo Furuhashi, and David Turnbull, according to broadcaster Jonathan Sutherland on Sportscene.

And when Sutherland asked analyst Stewart if Tavernier had a chance to finish as the top scorer, he couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically. “Well, if he gets two penalties a game, then he’s going to hit a fair few, isn’t he?” was his response.
