Marseille are eyeing up a move for West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd this summer

Marseille are eyeing up a move for West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd this summer as they plan arrivals to bolster their squad.

That’s according to journalist Hakim Zhouri, via Le 10 Sport, who says the defender is not against leaving West Ham this summer.

Aguerd has been at West Ham since 2022 after making a €35m move from Stade Rennais, where he had previously established himself as one of their key players.

He’s only managed 58 appearances for West Ham to date, though, with an ankle injury picked up just after his arrival seeing him spend 98 days on the treatment table and miss 20 games for club and country.

He’s not really been able to establish himself since that point under David Moyes and despite a strong start this season has found himself out of the picture since a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in February

Since then, he’s only managed appearances in a draw with Burnley and a defeat to Fulham, either spending his time on the bench or out of the squad entirely.

Several reports have indicated he could be one of the players to leave West Ham this summer and Zhouri reports Marseille are considering a move.

“I received feedback yesterday from his entourage and not from Benatia or OM. So, regarding Marseille’s interest in Aguerd, it’s really a lead from Benatia, even if it was validated by Longoria,” he said.

“The player is not against the idea of leaving since he has lost his “indisputable” starting status. Now he’s more in the rotation, he comes into play less. It’s true that he’s a little injured but he’s really less in the coach’s idea of the game.

“There are others who pass in front of him and therefore the club is not closed to the idea of letting him leave.

“The game project could please him at OM level. Afterwards, it will depend on several factors. In any case for the moment, it’s just the beginnings of the track.

“The deal could initially be in the form of a loan, with an obligation to purchase or an option to purchase. It will depend. But hey, in a pinch, I think we can trust Longoria to negotiate. At the moment, I do not yet have all the information concerning this aspect oft he deal.”
