When you look at the landscape of college basketball, the teams that have been having the most success are the older ones that shoot/make a lot of 3s.
In his first year as the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, Mark Pope has built his roster around modern college basketball by bringing in older players who can shoot.
According to Kyle Tucker, there are only two teams in the SEC whose roster has played at least 20,000 Division I minutes and made at least 1,000 career 3s. Those teams are Alabama and Kentucky.
Alabama, fresh off the program’s first Final Four, tops the list in both categories with 21,639 DI minutes logged and 1,060 3s made.
As for the Cats, they’re third in the SEC in minutes with 20,742 behind Bama and Ole Miss. However, they are second in 3s made with 1,033. The next closest team in made 3s is Ole Miss and Tennessee, who are tied with 796.
Only two SEC teams have both 20,000 Division I minutes played and 1,000 career 3-pointers made on the roster: Alabama and Kentucky.
