After Jurgen Klopp revealed another “quite serious” injury, Liverpool have been left with walking wounded.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has announced that goalkeeper Alisson has suffered a “rather serious” injury, with no timetable for his return. The German coach expects the stopper to return before the end of the Premier League season, as Liverpool fight on three fronts after winning the Carabao Cup.
Caoimhin Kelleher has performed admirably in the number one’s absence and should expect to see more playing time after Klopp provided an update on Alisson’s injury. The 31-year-old has been out for two weeks with a muscle ailment and will miss his fifth consecutive game when Liverpool go to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
But before the trip to the City Ground, Klopp confirmed that Alisson’s injury “is not a short one” and prompted fears that he would return well after this month’s international break. “There is no real timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury,” Klopp said. “Different players recover differently. That is it pretty much. It is not a short one.
It is not that he will be in contention for next week or something like that. We have to wait a few more weeks, definitely, for him. He is working in the gym, not on the pitch, it is a rather serious one but not a season-ending injury.”
The blow comes in the middle of an injury crisis for Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Thiago, Joel Matip and Stefan Bajcetic all confirmed absentees for the trip to Nottingham.
Darwin Nunez, Andy Robertson, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai remain doubts but could feature against Forest, though Klopp will hope that he can keep his star names wrapped in cotton wool for the upcoming blockbuster clash with Manchester City.
