Leeds United are expected to be on the lookout for a new winger after selling Crysencio Summerville and are ‘on alert’ for one potential option after Southampton had a bid rejected.
Summerville completed a move to West Ham United over the weekend with the Dutchman expected to set the Hammers back a fee of £25m plus add-ons. It is Leeds’ seventh permanent sale of the summer.
Leeds have raked in a fee north of £75m on player sales this summer, spending less than £20m on the arrivals of Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle, Joe Rothwell and Alex Cairns. But they are after three new signings.
A replacement for Summerville, a full-back and another midfielder after Glen Kamara’s exit. Plenty of names are being linked with a move to Elland Road ahead of Saturday’s opener against Portsmouth.
Leeds now ‘on alert’ for ‘magical’ Premier League winger
One wide player Leeds have been linked with is Crystal Palace star Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. Described as “magical” by Roy Hodgson, Rak-Sakyi starred on loan at Charlton in 2022-23 and had a hand in 22 goals.
He returned to Palace for 2022-23 but struggled to get game time, managing only eight senior outings. But Palace still rate him, and The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon has an update on his Patreon channel.
Nixon says Southampton have seen a permanent offer rejected, after the Saints upped their initial £7m bid to £12m for Rak-Sakyi. They want to send him on loan to the Championship and Leeds are ‘on alert’.
Leeds face plenty of Championship competition for Rak-Sakyi
Nixon names five Championship clubs keen to take him on loan this summer, with Leeds battling Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United as well as Hull City, Queens Park Rangers and Watford in the race for Rak-Sakyi.
Previous reports even say that 18 of the 24 Championship clubs have shown an interest in the winger. With Southampton’s attempts to get him permanently turned down, the race for Rak-Sakyi is truly on.
The winger travelled to America for pre-season only to be left on the bench and a decision on his choice of loan club is expected in the ‘next few days’. Leeds will be hoping they can convince the Palace talent.
