Lebron James: It’s ‘Disrespectful’ To Lakers Teammates To Discuss Possible Deal Deadline Moves.
With just a few weeks until the trade deadline on February 8, the Los Angeles Lakers have been the subject of numerous rumors. A team with a 39-year-old LeBron James is constantly looking to strengthen its squad.
After winning the In-Season Tournament, the Lakers have struggled to find their footing, with losses occurring on an almost monthly basis. However, L.A. has won convincingly against the L.A. Clippers, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and now the Dallas Mavericks, bringing them back to.500 at 21-21.
Winning does not cure everything, but it was evident during the December and early January slump that this team needed to make a change or two. When considering trades, it should be in the best interests of James and co-star Anthony Davis to make their jobs simpler, but the all-time top scorer is focused on the players that are here now and is unconcerned about any potential deals.
“I don’t play fantasy basketball. What I do is focus on the guys that wear this uniform and come up to work every day. It’s too insulting to consider what we need or don’t have. “I don’t do that to my teammates,” James explained. “We’ve been putting in the effort, and that’s what we must continue to do. We enjoy how we’ve been playing the past several games. We get to continue that Friday against Brooklyn.”
While James has often been referred to as a ‘GM’ at various points in his career, he understands that the focus must be on how he and his teammates can continue to win. It is crucial to maintain consistency, especially after achieving success with a fresh starting lineup and constant rotations.
“I think the rotations have been pretty solid because Coach [Darvin Ham] knows who’s playing, who’s not playing,” he went on to say. “So he’s able to, and guys are logging minutes with lineups that they’re becoming used to. I believe that helps when our second people arrive, since they are ready to go right away. Max [Christie] has been providing us with valuable minutes. C-Wood has been providing us with valuable minutes. Rui [Hachimura] is providing us with valuable minutes. We’re going to need that, so if they can keep doing it, it’ll be extremely beneficial to our squad.
The trade deadline can be a stressful moment for those involved in rumors, but it is critical to remain focused and not allow it to impair performance. As a leader, James strives to keep his troops together and focused on the present.
